In 1986, Prof. J. V. Comasseto initiated the integration between organic synthetic Brazilian chemists in an informal meeting at IQ-USP, which gathered about 100 professors, graduate and post-graduate students alike. In the years after, along with other friends, Prof. J. V. Comasseto contributed for the consolidation of these meetings, which became known as Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis (BMOS). This meeting exists for over twenty years now, becoming one of the most prestigious Brazilian Scientific Meetings in the chemistry area, biannually gathering together over 400 Brazilian and foreigner researchers.

The biocatalysis workshop began in 2002 at Prof. Comasseto’s laboratory. In the following years these meetings have been happening biannually, putting together specialists interested in biocatalysis. These meetings served to increase this area in the country, and stimulated the appearance of various groups dedicated to the synthetic application of biocatalysis.

At the SBQ-30 annual meeting, Prof. J. V. Comasseto suggested the creation of a new meeting aimed to approximate the doctorate program students in organic synthesis with the industry sector. This was a welcome idea, and colleagues from other institutions have dedicated to the organization of these biannual meetings since then.
