The Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) is a nongovernmental association aiming to contribute for the development of science and technology, of the education and the social welfare of the country. In this Academy are present the Brazilian scientists of recognized scientific merit. The ABC has important functions in several activities related to the science in Brazil, as for example to help the creation of new scientific institutions, to support scientific publications and scientific meetings, as well as to establish international agreements.
Prof. J. V. Comasseto was elected an associated member of the ABC in 1987 and a fellow in 1993.
