Transport

If you’re coming from outside São Paulo State you are probably going to land on Cumbica Airport (GRU) or Congonhas Airport (CGH), otherwise you’re probably going to arrive at Tietê Coach Station.

Cumbica Airport (GRU)

You can take the 257 bus from Airport Bus Service on Terminal 1 or 2. It goes to Tatuapé Bus Station and there are two shopping malls and a Subway (here it’s known as “Metrô) nearby there. The ticket costs R$5,55 and the bus leaves each 15 minutes from 5am to 12pm (more info here).

Once you get on Tatuapé Bus Station, cross the bridge and go to the subway. You can buy/charge your Bilhete Unico there. The nearest subway station from USP main campus is Butantã, so get the red line heading Palmeiras-Barra Funda and once you get on Republica switch to the yellow line heading direction Butantã and get off in the last stop.

Total Price: 5,50 (shuttle bus) + 3,80 (Bilhete Único) + 3,80 (metro) = R$ 13,10

Congonhas Airport (CGH)

The nearest train (Metrô) station of USP main campus is Butantã. In order to get there one can take a city bus (609J-10 Metrô São Judas) right in front the Airport. The interval between busses is approximately 15 minutes. (more info here). In the Metrô station you can get your Bilhete Único and then get the train direction Tucuruvi. You should get off at Luz Station and switch to the yellow line, taking the train direction Butantã. The path from one line to the other is well signed. However, if you have any trouble ask an employee, they will be ready to help.

Preço total:  3,80 (Bilhete Unico) + 3,80 (metro) + 3,80 (onibus) = R$ 11,40

Tiete Coach Station

If you arrive at Tiete Coach Station, we have great news: you are just by the subway! EThere is a connection between the subway station and the coach station through a footbridge. All you need to do is buy your subway/metro card (Bilhete Único) in a counter/ ticket office after the footbridge and take the escalator up to “Portuguesa-Tiete” station. Take the train direction Jabaquara. Pay close attention to the signs so you don’t go the wrong way, if that happens you may have to buy another ticket or use your card again. If, however, you have problems finding you way, ask an employee for help. You have to get off at Luz Station and follow the signs in order to switch to the yellow subway line. Once you are there, take the train to Butantã Station.

Preço total: 3,80 (Bilhete Unico) + 3,80 (metro) = R$ 7,60

Bilhete Único (Metro/Subway/Transportation Card)

The Bilhete Único is a card that allows you to spend less on public transportation. It works like a debit card, you only need to swipe it inside buses and subway stations. AAll the public transportation within the city have a fee of R$ 3,80. You can use your Bilhete Unico for up to four buses or three buses and a subway ride for up to three hours paying only that price. If you take only a bus, only one fee will be charged. If you change the transportation kind (bus-subway, or the other way around), an extra R$ 2,12 will be charged.(more info here.)

The price for the card is R$ 3,80. We recommend you to buy it because it is safer to walk around the city with the card than it is with cash (and it can also be a souvenir!).

Taxi

For those who don’t want to use public transportation, there are taxi standing at both airports and in the coach station. We recommend you to take a look at common taxi apps, as 99taxi, easytaxi and uber you might find some good prices.
