Nanosystems and nanotechnology (NAP-NN)

The Support Programme for Research Dean of USP (NAP) aims to develop advanced research in nanotechnology and nanosciences through association of chemists, physicists and engineers, including applications in biology and medicine. Units involved: Institute of Chemistry, USP (headquarters), Institute of Physics, USP, USP Polytechnic School, Institute of Electrical and Energy USP. Coordination: prof. Henry E. Toma (IQ-USP).

Development of Pharmacological Interest Compounds or Medicinal and its Transportation Systems, Detection and Recognition in Biological Environment (Thematic Project - FAPESP)
Are carried out systematic studies of reactive species in biological, involved in vital processes or disease will be realized. These species will be planned, prepared and isolated as free compounds or inserted in inorganic appropriate, forming functional materials, and have investigated its reactivity. Among these there are different species substances including organic compounds with antioxidant or antioxidants, polymers, chelating agents and their metal complexes. Aims mainly processes in which species could act as nutraceutical agents, pharmacological or medicinal. The project also provide suitable methodology for the detection and monitoring of these species as well as for transport, reconnaissance and studies of its toxicity against biological targets selected. The rationalization of the experimental data sought will be provided by theoretical calculations aimed at predicting species more efficient. Teachers involved: Ana Maria da Costa Ferreira (IQ-USP coordinator), Vera R. Leopoldo Constantino (IQ-USP), Helena M. Petrilli (IF-USP), Mark A. Bizeto (UNIFESP), Breno P. Esposito (IQ-USP).
