General Rules for Granting Institutional Scholarships

The Graduate Program in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) at the Institute of Chemistry, University of São Paulo (USP), receives an annual allocation of Master’s and Doctoral scholarships from CNPq and CAPES. These scholarships are distributed to students enrolled in the program based on criteria established by the CCP (Program Coordination Committee), which prioritize academic merit. Currently, scholarship distribution is based on the grade obtained in the program’s admission exam, with priority given to students scoring above 7.0. Additionally, the admission exam score and the number of active scholarships already granted to students under the supervision of a particular advisor are also considered.

Requirements for Scholarship Eligibility

To be granted a scholarship, the following conditions must be met:

  • Full-time dedication to the activities of the Graduate Program.
  • No employment relationship or proof of unpaid leave from professional activities.
  • No employment relationship with USP.
  • No receipt of other scholarships from CAPES, CNPq, or any other public funding agency.
  • Not being retired.

Submission of a Research Project

To receive the scholarship, the submission of a scientific research project signed by the scholarship recipient and an advisor accredited in the program is mandatory. This project must be submitted by the date specified in the scholarship award document, which must also be signed by the advisor and the awarded student.

Scholarship Duration and Values

The duration and monetary value of Master’s and Doctoral scholarships granted by CAPES and CNPq are determined by these agencies.

Specific Requirements for CAPES Scholars

  • Master’s Scholarships: CAPES Master’s scholars must enroll in a pedagogical course during the first year of their scholarship.
  • Doctoral Scholarships: CAPES Doctoral scholars are required to take a pedagogical course and complete a supervised teaching internship (monitoring) during the first year of their scholarship.

Scholarship Maintenance

The continuation of the scholarship is strictly tied to the development of a scientific research project presented by the recipient and an accredited advisor in the program.

Submission of Annual Reports

Scholarship recipients from CAPES and CNPq must submit annual scientific reports on the following dates:

  • March 31 (for scholarships starting in the first semester).
  • September 30 (for scholarships starting in the second semester).

The reports must be accompanied by an evaluation from the advisor regarding the recipient’s scientific and academic performance. These documents must be uploaded directly to the SIAD (Integrated Student Monitoring System) available on the Graduate Studies page of IQUSP.

Suspension of Scholarships

The CCP may suspend the scholarship in cases of non-submission of the scientific report or if the recipient’s scientific or academic performance is deemed insufficient.
